What Is an STL File?

An STL file is the digital blueprint for a 3D printable object. You download the file, open it in free slicer software (Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, or Cura), and your 3D printer manufactures the physical item layer by layer.

You are buying the design, not a physical object. Once you own the file, you can print it as many times as you want, in any color, at any scale. The commercial printing license is included — you can also sell the printed items.

Common Questions About STL Files

Do I need a 3D printer to use these files?
You need access to a 3D printer, but not necessarily your own. Many local libraries, makerspaces, and online print services (Craftcloud, Treatstock) will print STL files and ship you the finished item.
What 3D printer software do I need?
Free slicer software: Bambu Studio (Bambu Lab printers), PrusaSlicer (Prusa and most others), or Cura (universal). All are free to download.
What filament should I use?
PLA is the easiest for most prints. Use PETG for anything that needs to be heat-resistant or goes in a car, kitchen, or garage.
How long does it take to print?
Depends on the model. Small items (pill boxes, keychains) take 1–3 hours. Larger decor pieces can take 6–12 hours.
Can I sell physical items I print from these files?
Yes — all Bodhin Industries STL files include commercial printing rights. You can print and sell the physical items. You cannot resell or share the digital files.
